Is 4 too young for a camera? I think I want to get Mollie her own camera. I would love to see what she decides to take pictures of. She is very good at expressing herself verbally, but she's not always in the mood for talking. We've been getting a lot of "Leave me alone!" and "I don't want to talk about this right now!" So, I am looking for another way for Mollie to express herself. Art works too, but I think she would like a camera.
no way! lala has an old school film one and i keep meaning to look for a cheapo digital one. it is so cool what she has taken photos of.
ReplyDeleteYou are never too young and can totally get kid proof (drop and tantrum proof) ones (I think Fisher and vtech do them), or even disposable ones work great with kids too. They really can take the most wonderful photos, from a totally different angle than us adults too! The really cheap digitals unfortunately don't tend to have much of an anti-vibration in there, so are often too blurry for kids to use too well.
ReplyDeleteKind of on that subject there was a great documentary out a few years ago - Born Into Brothels - which gave the kids of the prostitutes in India cameras to take photos of their world with. It was a pretty amazing and touching documentary, the idea was to teach these "unclean" kids a skill and earn some money through photo sales they could get an education with. If you haven't seen it I would totally recommend it if your into documentaries.
I second NEAs no way! By the way S, I have been checking daily for updates and have been thinking so much about you and everything that is going on. I am sending very good thoughts Mollie's way and to the rest of you also. thank you for sharing. i am sure it is hard to tactifully and simply say all those feelings. eh
ReplyDeleteThey have really cheap digital key-chain cameras (under $20). I don't know what they are called but I've seen them at Wallgreens in the Bay Area. There are also nicer kid-proof ones, like RGW said. I think everyone should have a camera from about 2 on. Of course I don't have a two-year-old so that is really easy for me to say.
ReplyDeleteSending up my prayers for you Mollie.
