Made It

Mollie made it through the rest of the week just fine. Thank goodness she didn't get sick!

She has really been enjoying Liam; she can't wait to come home from school and hold him. And he loves her just as much. He just gazes up at her and never fusses when she's holding him. That gives me a little time with Lucy. I feel lucky to have such great kids!

Mollie heads back to clinic on Monday for IV chemo. And that means the start of steroids too, so I'm not looking forward to this week.

Have a nice weekend!

Angels

Mollie has been so lucky to have wonderful chemo angels. Every week for the past year, the chemo angels have sent a card or small gift for Mollie. We don't usually write back (it is so hard to find the time!), but Mollie talks about her chemo angels often and she truly appreciates getting those special packages in the mail. I think Mollie realizes this is more than the special treats- it is knowing that someone is thinking about her and taking the time to show they care.

Mollie's tenure with chemo angels has ended- due to the long duration of treatment, they can only support leukemia patients for one year. But Angel Susan and her daughter sent Mollie a special Valentine package that brightened her day yesterday!! They are such thoughtful, caring people.

If you have the time and energy, please consider being a chemo angel for someone else. It is a big commitment (the program administrators check in monthly to make sure the angels are sending something every week), but it is such a wonderful program that really makes a difference in the lives of cancer patients.

Fingers Crossed

Mollie woke up feeling "weak and dizzy" this morning. She was also feeling a little unwell at school yesterday, so I'm keeping her home today. So far, no fever or symptoms other than a stuffy nose.

Update: As it turns out, Mollie is feeling a little tired, but mostly wanted to stay home from school because other kids in the school are sick and she's worried she will get sick. Matt and I are totally on board with this (well, I would rather she was just honest and upfront about it from the very beginning rather than saying she felt sick). Her circumstances are different; other kids get a cold and stay home for a day or two; Mollie gets sick and can end up in the hospital for two weeks. So, she can stay home today, and we'll see how it goes the rest of the week.

TWO!

Lucy is 2 years old today! Time sure flies- she was just an infant when Mollie was diagnosed with leukemia and now she is a happy, healthy kid and a big sister! She is full of energy and very entertaining. She is Mollie's constant companion and protégé. She loves to play with balls and go to the park, but she also likes to color with Mollie and play baby dolls. M&Ms ('bites') are her weakness.

We celebrated her birthday last weekend with my parents and Michelle and Isabella. Lucy adores Bella and she was so tickled at her birthday party. When we all sang happy birthday her eyes lit up and she had a huge smile; then she truly enjoyed opening her presents- she oohed and aahed at each one, even the clothes! I think that was the happiest I've ever seen her!

Happy Birthday Sweet Lucy!

And since this is Mollie's blog, the update is she has a cough with no fever. We're glad it's Friday so she can get some R & R over the weekend and hopefully fight off this bug.

One Week In

Liam is one week old today, and I couldn't have asked for a better week (except for the weather).

Mollie is thrilled with her new baby brother! She sits quietly and cuddles him every afternoon. And she's been very helpful, not only with the baby, but with keeping Lucy occupied. Thankfully, she has been very healthy all week. Her new favorite food is salad and her appetite has been great! She attended school every day and even sold a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies. An aside, if you would like to purchase some Girl Scout cookies, let me know! Leave a comment or send an e mail. We have to turn in the order form by Monday. They are $3.50 per box and the money is due when the cookies arrive (mid-late February). You can even donate your boxes to a local charity or to deployed US military through the cookies from home program.

Lucy has been doing great with Liam, too. She still doesn't understand that she has to be gentle (not her strong suit), but she loves to kiss him and talk to him. Both girls thrive on routine, so the challenge for us will be to stick to the routine. I'm thinking of making a new daily routine chart to remind all of us what needs to be done.

More photos coming soon!

Welcome Liam Charles!

Mollie and Lucy now have a baby brother, Liam Charles. He was born Jan. 9 at 3:27 and weighed a whopping 9 lbs 8 oz! Getting here was a wild ride, but we all made it through and can't wait to be home together as a family of 5!
