We're free today

Mollie had a great afternoon yesterday. She played with Lucy outside and then helped my mom bake cupcakes for my dad's birthday. We celebrated both Mollie's discharge and my dad's birthday by going out to dinner. What better time to go out than when Mollie's ANC is really high? She ate and played some more and didn't want to go to bed.

This morning she had a bubble bath! She's feeling good for the most part. She is having some bone pain from the neupogen shots and is very concerned about her hair. I'm not sure how to handle this one. It's such an outward sign of her cancer and she just wants to be treated like a normal kid. Guess we'll just take it one day at a time. She will definitely be out of school the rest of this week and we haven't yet figured out what the long term plan is for school. First, things first.

Matt and I got to decompress a little last night. Tears of joy and thankfulness, fear and loss. Today is surreal- we have been in crisis mode for two weeks, and then all of the sudden we are home, Matt is back at work, Mollie and Lucy are playing and arguing, there's housework to be done...

  4. Welcome home, Mollie! I know Lucy is so glad to see you and I bet your back garden is more pleasant than your hospital room!

Sarah, for two weeks the abnormal was your normal. My theory is that you have to allow the same amount of time for things to return to whatever might amount to normal in your ever changing household. I was glad to learn that your folks were with you and hope their presence has helped during this time. Enjoy a 'date' with matt while they are there and indulge in a bubble bath for yourself.

Happy birthday to your Dad! I am thinking of all of you.

  5. SO thankful for you getting to decompress. Can't imagine the rollercoaster of late. Still can't wait to see you all-- hopefully that works out later in the month. Hopefully the house work gets knocked out soon with the help you have!

    What a relief!

And happy bday to Grandpa TC from us :)

  7. I'm so relieved to hear you are finally home. Two weeks is TOO LONG to live at the hospital! Isabel and I have talked about Mollie often and we certainly empathize with your situation. For me, it seemed to take almost a month to really come down from lengthy hospital stays. I wish nothing but mellow days for all of you from here on out. XXOO.
